Sotech provided Optima FC, aluminium polyester powder coated rainscreen panels in graduated stripes of differing shades of red, the Rathbone Market development in Canning Town is a 271-apartment mixed use development with one of the East End’s oldest markets on its doorstep.
When all phases are complete, the development will include a new market square, shops, offices, community facilities and an eco-garden with a green wall to deflect noise and pollution from the adjacent A13.
In total 2,000 sqm of powder coated Sotech Optima FC rainscreen, including faceted and curved panels, were coated in five contrasting shades of red, the largest panel 1400mm wide, the smallest 300mm, achieving a random yet striking graduated appearance across the south and west facing facades. Over 6,000 sqm of anodised aluminium Optima FC rainscreen panels, each 775m x 1500, provide a contrasting appearance to the feature towers and plant rooms.
Conventionally the Optima FC rainscreen system would be installed from the base of the building upwards, however, to enable the scaffold to be removed as areas were completed, thus reducing the potential for damage to the façade by others, the requirement was for the panels to be installed from the top of the building down. To facilitate this development the FC hook system, manufactured in-house by Sotech, was redesigned and because the hook when under pressure, is generally the weakest link in any system.
With the ever increasing performance demands for rainscreen, Sotech undertook independent CWCT testing to ensure that the Optima FC cassette system met all wind load requirements. The rainscreen was successfully tested at CWCT to three different wind load categories dependent on location and height.
The Sotech Optima FC secret-fix system is suitable for all wall constructions and is available in a wide range of material choices, it does not support combustion and has been independently tested and accredited to CWCT standards. Sotech remains the only rainscreen panel manufacturer to gain third party accreditation for its systems and to achieve LPCB accreditation.
