890m2 of 3.0mm Aluminium in Optima TFC+ and 2.0mm Aluminium in Optima IPC was used in the completion of the bold and brand new Travelodge in Abbey Wood Retail Park.
Optima TFC+ is Sotech’s economical, discreet fix rainscreen cladding solution; a fantastic cost-effective alternative to traditional secret fix rainscreen cladding. Advanced manufacturing processes ensure precise panel sizing and shaping, contributing to a pristine aesthetic finish. Optima TFC+ was chosen in place of our Optima FC+ system as it worked better for the project budget and requirements.
Optima IPC is Sotech’s pressed plank rainscreen cladding solution which can be secretly fixed onto an extruded aluminium support framework horizontally, vertically or diagonally in a variety of materials. Optima IPC was selected for this project because of the pressed plank’s versatility in framework – perfect for the area of the building using Optima IPC.
Several colour swatches were sent to the architect, Juan López of Stride Treglown, who selected the final colour scheme to fit within Travelodge’s new premium look and design aesthetic for their hotels. The project reflects the group’s most significant brand transformation to date.
An interesting challenge of the project was finalising the layout of the panels, as the panel joints don’t directly align. To overcome this, Sotech’s Product Development Manager, Lee Gravett, produced a 3D model to show how the panels would fit together and created bespoke order sheets for A2O to complete. The bespoke order sheets allowed A2O to easily schedule this project.
Sotech’s Technical Engineer, Mohammadreza Jenaban, also known as Mo, carried out Finite Element Analysis (FEA) on the panels to test the system’s performance against the project specific loads. The FEA is used to analyse the panel deflection and stress alongside other components such as additional support brackets and the stress experienced by these elements.
The 85-room Bristol Abbey Wood Travelodge is Travelodge’s first new premium budget-luxe design in the UK, and the group’s seventh hotel in Bristol. Situated within the Abbey Wood Retail Park Complex, the hotel is surrounded by dining and shopping options.
The hotel has been awarded a BREEAM Very Good rating and an Energy Performance Certificate rating of B. (Source: The business Desk)
Testimonials
Joshua Stevens, Estimator of Sotech said:
“A2O were great to work with through the project, early stage discussions and design input from Sotech ensured the transfer of information was smooth throughout.”
Stefan Cox, A2O Facades, BIM Champion & Revit Technician said:
“Sotech were extremely helpful with the detailed design of the Sotech Optima TFC+ and Optima IPC panels, including providing us with detailed fabrication templates for manufacturing. As ever Sotech were competent and reliable, and it was a pleasure to work with them.
Sotech has an excellent BIM department and a very comprehensive BIM user guide. Mohammadreza Jenaban was extremely helpful and knowledgeable, he provided us with all the information to allow us to take a very complicated façade with multiple sizes, colours and complicated interfaces to create an amazing model. The technical aspects of the system were already secured by Revit components, which were supplied by Sotech and were highly helpful for the initial design process.”
Juan Lopez, Associate Architect at Stride Treglown added:
“We had the pleasure of closely working with members of your team – Mohamadreza Jenaban and Simran Thiara – during tender stage. The BIM components provided by Sotech were an excellent tool to achieve a degree of design accuracy at early stages; good enough to ensure success during delivery.”
