2500sqm of Optima Limitless Extrusion has been selected for the completion of Bath Court – the new student accommodation in Birmingham. Designed from Aluminium 6063 T6 Grade, the bespoke extrusions were chosen to reduce the weight of the façade from the original specification.
Aluminium Extrusion is the perfect option when creating complex shapes within a specific budget and timeframes and the systems can be provided in a vast number of Powder Coated Finishes, as well as Anodised. The client required a bespoke alternative to terracotta cladding, which was more hard wearing, lighter and quicker to produce. The Limitless Extrusion system provides greater levels of impact resistance in a cost-effective way.
The main challenge when producing the panels was creating a bespoke cladding system capable of delivering the architect’s concept. Our previous experience of developing extruded cladding systems as well as our relationship with extrusion manufacturers assisted with this challenge.
Sotech initially designed four new dies for the development of this system along with project specific CWCT testing at Vinci Technology Centre. Project delivery is currently ongoing with the aim to complete the works early 2020.
Bath Court is an exciting new student accommodation providing accommodation for 400 students. The prominent 100m street frontage wraps itself around two sides of the site and the lower will be complete with a new retail unit, gym, communal social space and silent study areas.
The mixture of colours and profiles gives a completely unique appearance. The tough exterior cladding will offer protection to the façade for years to come enhanced by the paint protection of Axalta Powder.
