4 reasons to choose PPC V2

Polyester Powder Coating, or PPC, is a type of dry coating, rather than a conventional liquid paint. When applied to metal rainscreen as a free flowing, dry powder it provides rainscreen panels with an attractive, durable and high quality finish that lasts.

These are just a few of the benefits of using PPC in your rainscreen cladding project.

1. Complete Panel Coverage

The PPC powder is applied to rainscreen panels electrostatically and is then cured under heat to allow it to form a ‘skin’. This electrostatic powder process means we can ensure complete coverage of the panels, even on more complex shapes.

Plus, powder coating is designed to eliminate any drips, runs or bubbles that might affect the appearance of the panel, giving a clean, seam free uniform finish.

PPC is therefore ideal for complex builds with extrusions, curved panels, multiple angles and even hidden surfaces.

A great example of this can be seen on the Vermillion building in Rathbone Market. In total 2,000 sqm of powder coated Sotech Optima FC rainscreen, including faceted and curved panels.

2. Durable ‘Hard’ Finish

Powder Coating can produce a much thicker coating than conventional liquid coating leaving PPC rainscreen cladding with a hard finish. This is much tougher than normal paint and its strong abrasion and corrosion resistance properties make it extremely durable and long lasting.

A durable hard finish like this is useful for buildings with a high footfall, such as schools and hospitals. For example, Farnham Road Hospital where the PPC coloured panels were installed in a pattern to create a mosaic effect on the main external façade.

3. Colour and effect options

The View

If you’re looking for a finish to make your project stand out a PPC finish is a great specification choice with a range of 200 standard RAL colours.

Special effects, such as the anodic collection, offer a great alternative to anodised aluminium and stone, natural effects and different textures can be used to add identity and express quality.

You can see a stunning example of the visual finish created on The View in Downing Plaza – a series of student accommodation located in the heart of Newcastle City Centre. 2300sqm of Sotech Optima TFC, through fix cassette rainscreen cladding was used on this visually stunning project.

4. Protection Against UV Fading

Coatings can be formulated for specific applications such as prolonged UV exposure.  Highly corrosive environments, high durability and resistance to chipping.

Take a look at Victoria Halls for example. Finished in PPC RAL: 1028 & 9017 – a bold and eye catching yellow – it’s important to maintain the bright and striking vibrancy of the yellow panels over time.
