The Manchester Cancer Research Centre (MCRC)
development has been shortlisted for the Greater Manchester Building of the Year award, along with two other University of Manchester developments.
This world class medical facility is one of Sotech’s most recent case studies, and uses our Optima FC and TFC rainscreen cladding systems both internally and externally, along with a number of additional bespoke features. We provided the signal white panels which make up the geometric effect of the main elevation, creating the clean and clinical feel that the architect intended.
The centre opened in June and will house around 250 staff to work on ground breaking treatment for cancer. It is a partnership between Manchester University, the Christie NHS Foundation and Cancer Research UK.
The MCRC will face the Soapworks in Salford Quays, the National Graphene Institute, the Victoria Station Redevelopment, Whitworth Art Gallery and the Link Building in order to claim the title of Greater Manchester Building of the Year 2015.
The awards are organised by the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce, and the winner is due to be announced at their Property and Construction Annual Dinner at the Deansgate Hilton on November 12th.
The final decision is reached by a committee of 12 professionals from the property and construction sector, who undertake visits to each of the finalists in the weeks leading up to the ceremony.
Steve Burne, the chair of the Chamber’s Property and Construction Committee and responsible for judging the award, has said that “This competition aims to celebrate not only the new, innovative and inspirational buildings that are constructed in our region, but also the successful collaborations that take place between talented project teams in our industry and their clients.
“The final six buildings all make a significant contribution to our city and I look forward to our site visits and choosing a winner.”
