The View, Downing plaza, is phase 3 of a series of student accommodation located in the heart of Newcastle City Centre.2300sqm of Sotech Optima TFC, through fix cassette rainscreen cladding was used on this visually stunning project.
The panels were manufactured in 2mm aluminium 3000 series grade of alloy to increase the tensile strength and maintain the flatness of the panels to help achieve the appearance of glass. A 70% gloss ppc finish was used in 7 varying shades of blue RAL colours, creating a reflective effect to the building. We also provided 325sqm of bespoke rainscreen panels with a ridged appearance to suit the architect’s design intent.
Due to system requirements, Sotech worked alongside installers Dane Architectural and architects Simpson Haugh Architects to produce a proposal for a bespoke version of the Optima TFC system, showing our dedication to manufacturing the best solution for our clients.
To ensure maximum efficiency, good project management was crucial on the project. Due to the various shades of colours involved in the scheme we manufactured and stored the rainscreen panels in accordance to colours but delivered to site in order of floors to suite Dane Architectural programme of installation.
Sotech’s Jamie Brown, the Estimator for this project, has said that “Though this project was quite challenging from an operational perspective, it was a great one to be involved with. We pride ourselves on being able to supply a solution to an architect’s needs and we believe we have done so with The View.
“It was a pleasure to see the variation in colour and texture come to life as the building was completed, I feel the project may be one of our most visually impressive case studies yet.”
The View is our third project in the Downing Plaza development in Newcastle, and we are also hoping to have secured a 4th for launch in 2016.
