Designed by BDP Architects, main contractors Miller Construction and cladding contractors Lakesmere, the Almondvale Shopping Centre in Livingston, Scotland is a fantastic example of Sotech’s Optima Baguettes system in action.
Aiming to recreate the appearance of traditional terracotta, we manufactured a bespoke extruded aluminium baguette system using terracotta-style cladding for the multi-storey car park development.
The baguette screens used to create the tile effect are a great way of using external cladding to add natural light to the car park building, as well as ventilation and daylight.
Showing our skills as a bespoke solutions provider, we worked in partnership with contractors Lakesmere to a system using lightweight aluminium material and a unique PPC finish made up of five different components to give the look and feel of terracotta that the design required. This also helped to reduce the overall cost, installation time and structural load of the building, providing the highest quality system possible within the constraints of the project.
Sotech also saved installation time by using a module measuring 2.7m by 1.8m, and weighing just 40kg, which meant it could be assembled in the factory before being transported to the site.
To add an eco-friendly benefit to the system, the rainscreen provided is also completely recyclable.
Economical and a light weight alternative to terracotta baguettes, the Optima Baguettes rainscreen system consists of extruded sections of rainscreen that can be used to support cladding systems, or as brise solar.
It is also available in three textured paint finishes, including all conventional RAL finishes, anthracite grey and traditional terracotta and is highly flexible with regards to meeting specific design requirements.
