EPDs and SOTECH’S COMMITMENT TO ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT
SOTECH CONTINUES TO BE AN INDUSTRY LEADER, BEING THE FIRST TO PRODUCe SYSTEM EPDS FOR COMPLETE BUILT UP RAINSCREEN CLADDING SYSTEM RATHER THAN INDIVIDUAL SINGLE ITEMS
COMPONENTS ON AN epd:
- General Information – Includes the product name, verification details, and validation date.
- Product Information – Summarises the products performance and key characteristics.
- LCA methodology – Details the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodology, including calculations in functional units (eg, M2).
- LCA Results – Presents the environmental impact at each stage, displayed in a table format.
- Analysis – Provides a comprehensive summary report, highlighting major environmental impacts
WHAT IS A LCA?
A LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) measures the impact on the environment from every stage of a product’s life cycle, including:
- Raw Materials
- Material Processing
- Manufacture
- Distribution
- Installation
- End of Life
BENEFITS OF CHOOSING A RAINSCREEN SYSTEM WITH AN EPD:
- Informed Decision-Making – Access detailed data on the environmental impact of the system, which empowers specifiers and installers to make informed choices.
- Exceed Client Requirements – Exceed expectations by choosing systems with EPDs, thereby boosting client satisfaction and reinforce trust in our dedication to transparency and environmental responsibility.
- Enhanced Reputation – Specifying and installing credible systems with EPDs reinforces a positive reputation for environmentally conscious practices.
- Streamlined Project Management – Utilise EPDs to streamline processes by providing comprehensive lifecycle data for specified systems, leading to smoother installation processes and better project outcomes.
- Drive Innovation – Specifiers and installers support the development and adoption of sustainable innovations in energy efficiency, material usage and transportation within the industry.
- Simplified Compliance – Simplify the certification process for projects aiming to meet criteria set by programs like BREEAM and LEED.
SYSTEM EPD VS PRODUCT EPD:
Sotech has invested in full system EPDs over product-specific EPDs, providing a holistic view of the environmental impact. Unlike product EPDs, which focus on individual components, full system EPDs account for the entire manufacturing process, including all materials and components such as bolts, nuts, screws, hooks, brackets, top hats and channels as well as transportation to site. By considering the system, it offers a more accurate assessment of carbon emissions and recyclability, enabling better informed discussions regarding the environmental performance of a product.

TAILORED PROJECT SPECIFIC EPDS:
Every building is unique, and so is its environmental impacts. At Sotech, we offer customised project-specific Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) designed to match your exact design specifications, including primary structure, wall composition, cladding preference, and aesthetic goals. These tailored EPDs are available alongside our comprehensive standard system configurations.
TAILORED EPDS: YOUR STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE
Creating project-specific EPDs is a meticulous process that involves detailed planning and rigorous data collection. Here’s how we do it:
- Defining the Project Scope: We begin the process by outlining the project scope, identifying the materials, systems, and processes that will be used.
- Component Breakdown: The project is then deconstructed into its individual components to determine the key factors that influence its environmental footprint.
- Comprehensive Life-Cycle Assessment (LCA): With data in hand, we perform a thorough LCA to measure environmental impacts at every stage of the products life cycle.
- Report Generation: Finally, we generate a detailed report that provides actional insights and comprehensive environmental data. Our full system and project-specific EPDs are more than just reports – they are a testament to our commitment to environmental stewardship. By integrating these insights, you can develop a sustainability-driven ethos in your project and contribute to a greener future.
SPEAK TO AN EXPERT:
The development of the Sotech EPDs began with Optima FC+, which is our secret-fix and most popular solution. This was paired with a PPC (powder coated) finish. The team has since continued the EPD process with the whole of the Optima range.
