OPTIMA MEADOW RAINSCREEN

Sotech and Vertical Meadow have joined forces to introduce an innovative living wall solution, transforming the sustainability efforts within the construction industry with minimal maintenance requirements.

Adapting Sotech's renowned Optima FC+ system, the collaboration introduces a groundbreaking design featuring a hinged perforated front panel, facilitating the seamless insertion of a seed membrane. The product is delivered dry to site by Sotech and integrated with irrigation systems, Wi-Fi, power, and water supplies, and activated to initiate the controlled germination process overseen by Vertical Meadow.

As the plants flourish and bloom over time, progress is conveniently tracked through user-friendly inspection and maintenance apps. This pioneering approach stands out as seeds are nurtured directly in place, resulting in a more cost-effective, lightweight, and sustainable system. With simplified maintenance and logistics, there's no need to transport live plants to the site, making it a game-changer in greener construction practices.

Working with our partner Vertical Meadow, we utilize data-driven insights, automated irrigation, and advanced remote monitoring to guarantee optimized water usage and reduced physical maintenance efforts. Vertical Meadow collaborates closely with leading ecologists to incorporate species-rich living walls that help restore nature in cities and tackle the growing biodiversity crisis, making it a pivotal choice for sustainable urban infrastructure.

OPTIMA MEADOWS Testing

BS 8414-2 refers to the fire performance of external cladding systems and is the test method for non-load bearing external cladding systems fixed to and supported by a structural steel frame.

The BS 8414 test methods were developed by the Building Research Establishment (BRE). They evaluate whether a cladding system subject to fire breaking out of an opening (such as a window) in an external wall, will result in excessive fire spread up the outside of the building and the potential for fire to re-enter at a higher level.

The tests are carried out in specialist laboratories, and are performed on full-scale systems (rather than small-scale samples) incorporating; joints and corner details, fixings, insulation, firebreaks, cavities and other elements of the system construction.

Performance criteria for assessing cladding systems tested using BS 8414 is contained within BR 135 –  Fire performance of external thermal insulation for walls of multi-storey buildings. It is important to note that the classification applies solely to the specific external facade system which has been tested.
