1200m² of Sotech’s Optima FC+ system in PPC aluminium has been used in Island Quarter, one of the largest and most transformative development projects in the UK.

Island Quarter Nottingham

Designed by leading architectural practice Jestico + Whiles, the student accommodation phase delivers high-quality purpose built student accommodation for nearly 700 students – meeting a growing demand in the city.

Why Optima FC+?

Jestico + Whiles selected PPC aluminium in YW207F and Y220TI to echo the urban and architectural tones of the surrounding regeneration area.

The choice of Interpon D2525 powder coating ensured a high-performance, weather-resistant finish that would stand the test of time, while reducing long-term maintenance.

Sotech’s Optima FC+ system was specified for its clean durable aesthetic, discrete fixings, and proven track record on multi-storey applications. Its secret-fix design enabled a sleek, modern look.

The majority of the façade utilised standardised FC+ panels with additional support rails – a setup that simplified the detailing process and sped up design and installation.

Collaboration and execution

Working in close collaboration with Keyclad, Sotech provided detailed fabrication drawings, bespoke panel layouts, and dedicated logistical support throughout the installation phase.
Clear and open communication played a critical role in the project’s success. The design team at Sotech received comprehensive drawings and specifications from Keyclad, allowing for a streamlined workflow and minimal back-and-forth.

Panel and rail drawings were provided as clear types, with any bespoke elements clearly highlighted.

Regular updates and design clarification from Sotech’s team ensured any issues were resolved promptly and efficiently.
