Sotech Appoints New CEO Jon Symonds to Lead Next Chapter of Growth
Sotech has announced the appointment of Jon Symonds as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective 1st July 2025. Jon becomes the first non-Egginton to lead the company in its 40-year history, marking a significant milestone for the family-founded rainscreen cladding manufacturer.
Describing the role as both a “huge honour” and a “huge responsibility,” Jon brings with him a wealth of leadership experience from across multiple industries, including energy retrofit and construction. His vision for Sotech is ambitious: to double the size of the company within five years through innovation, collaboration, and a values-driven culture.
“The opportunities are endless for what we can achieve. If we can see the opportunity and put the right strategy in place, we can achieve it. The leadership team is already working well together, and by aligning behind a clear strategy, there’s nothing that can stop us.”
Building on 40 Years of Innovation
Sotech, founded in 1982, has long been recognised for pioneering rainscreen cladding solutions and training some of the industry’s leading specialists. Since joining the business, Jon has highlighted the strength of the team’s combined technical expertise – over 300 years of collective experience – and the loyalty of staff who have been with the company for decades.
“Loyalty runs through this business at every level,” he said. “From the shop floor to the executive team, people here give everything they’ve got for Sotech. That’s inspiring to see as a leader stepping in.”
Strategy and New Appointments
Under Jons’ leadership, Sotech will continue to drive forward its focus on safety, collaboration in the market, and innovation. Recent product launches include the Optima BrickTech and Optima FlatFix systems, both fully fire tested, with further new products scheduled for release later this year.
The business is also strengthening its specification team, with the appointment of an Architectural Facade Manager and a new Specification Manager to support architects, contractors, and clients at the earliest stages of design.
“Specification is a huge opportunity for us. Getting involved early allows us to shape the design, ensure compliance, and add real value. But it’s just one of many opportunities that we’re ready to lead on.”
A Values-Driven Approach
Jon emphasised that growth will be achieved on a foundation of integrity, trust, openness, and teamwork. These values, he said, were instilled in him during his time in the Army and remain central to his leadership style.
“I don’t make promises I can’t keep,” he explained. “Culture and values are the glue that hold everything together. With the right culture, the right people, and the right products, Sotech will continue to thrive for decades to come.”
Looking Ahead
Sotech is currently shortlisted for two categories at the upcoming Facade Awards UK – for Best Use of Rainscreen Using Aluminium (Nottingham Trent University) and Best Refurbishment Project (Glasgow Harbour) – further recognition of its commitment to technical excellence and collaboration.
As Jon begins his tenure, his immediate focus is on strengthening client and supplier relationships, meeting partners at director level, and aligning the business behind its five-year strategy.
“We’ve got a great pipeline, a strong order book, and incredible talent across the company. With innovation at the core and a values-driven approach, Sotech is perfectly placed to lead the market into its next chapter.”
