The Optima Vertex Spandrel Panels are engineered to integrate seamlessly with curtain wall and glazing systems, enabling coordinated facade packages from a single technical partner. They conceal structural elements and building services while delivering the fire performance, thermal efficiency and clean aesthetic required for modern new-build and remediation projects.

The complete panel construction is carefully controlled in the factory – including insulation, adhesive application and edge details – to ensure consistent fire performance and reliable thermal results. Flexible profile options make it easy to align with a wide range of glazing systems while maintaining a flush, high-quality finish.

Available in Flat, Stepped and Double-Stepped profiles – with bespoke sizing options – Optima Vertex adapts to complex building geometries without compromising on quality or performance.

Optima Vertex Spandrel Panel Options

The Optima Vertex Spandrel system is available in a range of profiles and material options to suit different facade designs and glazing systems. This flexibility allows the panels to integrate seamlessly with curtain wall assemblies while maintaining a consistent architectural appearance. The Optima Vertex panel is offered with three edge constructions, each developed to suit panel performance, fire strategy, and curtain wall interface requirements.

Panel Profiles

Optima Vertex Spandrel panels can be manufactured in several profile configurations to suit project requirements:

PRO EDGE – High-Performance A1 Substrate

Made from A1-classified calcium silicate board.



FAB EDGE – High-Density Mineral Wool

The Fab Edge uses high-density A1 mineral wool insulation, offering greater compressive strength than the panel insulation.



LITE EDGE – Thermal Break Interface

The Lite Edge is a PVC foam board positioned inside the curtain wall mullion and transom zone.



Curtain Wall Compatibility

Optima Vertex spandrel panels are compatible with both clamped (captured) and toggle (flush) curtain wall systems:

  • Captured systems: use external pressure plates and caps to clamp panels in place, creating a framed façade.
  • Toggle systems: Toggles installed in between the inner and outer skins of the panel, delivering a flush, uninterrupted facade.

The appropriate edge construction is selected to meet the fire, structural, and thermal requirements of each system.

ANODISED ALUMINIUM

Anodising is an A1 non-combustible finish. It is an electrolytic passivation process used to increase the thickness of the natural oxide layer on the surface of metal parts.

Due to the nature of the anodising process and the tight quality controls on both the aluminium and the surface treatment, anodising has a homogeneous (matching & consistent) appearance.

Colours, textures and patterns can be incorporated in the anodic film, enhancing the natural metallic appearance without affecting the total UV resistance of the rainscreen cladding.

Anodising enhances the natural qualities of aluminium further; it permits a strongly contemporary finish with incomparable corrosion and abrasion resistance.

Aluminium is exceptionally recyclable, requires minimal maintenance and has proven lifetime performance.

Polyester Powder CoatED ALUMINIUM (PPC)

PPC is an A2 limited combustibility finish.

PPC is a type of dry coating, rather than a conventional liquid paint, and is applied to metal rainscreen as a free flowing, dry powder. The powder is applied to rainscreen panels electrostatically and is then cured under heat to allow it to form a ‘skin’. This electrostatic powder process means we can ensure complete coverage of the panels, even on more complex shapes.

Powder Coating can produce a much thicker coating than conventional liquid coating leaving PPC rainscreen cladding with a hard finish. This is much tougher than normal paint and its strong abrasion and corrosion resistance properties make it extremely durable and long lasting.

If you are looking for a finish to make your project stand out PPC is a great specification choice with a range of 200 standard RAL colours and a wide choice of special effects offer a great alternative to anodised aluminium and stone, natural effects and different textures can be used to add a unique touch to your project.

Stainless Steel

The appearance of stainless steel panels is easy to maintain, as the material is highly resistant to atmospheric and pure water environments, it is also 100% recyclable and Euroclass A1 Fire Rating.

Rimex offer Stainless Steel patters that are produced by texturing or rigidizing ferrous and non-ferrous metals, increasing strength in all directions.

Textures diffuse light patterns to produce an optical flatness to sheet metals, eliminating the unwanted oil-canning effect. Deep textured metals resist dents and scratches resulting in low maintenance costs.

Stainless Steel is Euroclass A1 Fire rating, the appearance of stainless steel panels is easy to maintain and 100% recyclable.

OPTIMA VERTEX SPANDREL Testing

BS EN 13501-1 is the European standard for fire classification of construction products and building elements. It defines how building materials and systems perform when exposed to fire, providing a clear Euroclass rating that reflects reaction-to-fire performance.

This classification evaluates:

  • Flammability of materials
  • Contribution to fire growth
  • Production of smoke
  • Generation of burning droplets or particles

It is essential to note that the Euroclass rating applies only to the specific product system tested, including its external panel, insulation, and fixing components. Any deviations or substitutions must be re-assessed to maintain compliance.

OPTIMA VERTEX SPANDREL SYSTEM TESTED

The Optima Vertex Fab and Optima Vertex Pro Spandrel Panels have been tested to meet the requirements of BS EN 13501-1:2018 – Reaction to Fire Classification.

Testing has demonstrated that the system can achieve Euroclass A2-s1, d0, indicating limited combustibility, low smoke production and no flaming droplets or particles when assessed under the standard.
