MCRC

We’re extremely proud to have been part of the revolutionary MCRC project, a brand new, purpose-built, world class medical research facility in Manchester.

The Manchester Cancer Research Centre (MCRC) - Wide shot view to show rainscreen cladding panels which make up the geometric effect of the main elevation

We worked with architects Wilson Mason, installers FK Group and main contractor Pochin Construction from design concept to realisation on this project, providing a total of 3400sqm of rainscreen cladding which included both our Optima FC Secret Fix and Optima TFC Through Fix Cassette. The Optima FC system was used on the office and administration block of the research centre, with 700sqm of rainscreen cladding in aluminium composite material being fitted with window reveals and copings. Our versatile and economical Optima TFC system was used both internally and externally.

The Manchester Cancer Research Centre (MCRC) - Close up of signal white panels which make up the geometric effect of the main elevation

To bring the architect’s design intent to life we developed over 3000 individual panels in a Signal White finish, which make up the fantastic geometric effect on the main elevation of the building. This was created to make the exterior feel as clean, clinical and modern as the research that is taking place inside the building, and does so with stunning effect.

The 500sqm of our Optima TFC system used inside the building was fitted to the entrance lobby, stairwells and office space, and also mimics the look of the external walls in order to create a flow through the whole building.

There were a number of bespoke elements to this project which required a bespoke software to create, including the individual panels for the main elevation, a unique framing system on which to hang the panels, panels to wrap around the building’s corners and sloping roof, and features like window reveals and beam enclosures.

The Manchester Cancer Research Centre (MCRC) has since been shortlisted for the Greater Manchester Building of the Year and achieved a BREEAM Excellent Rating, and is part of the city’s vision to become a world leader in cancer research.

The training facility and showroom at Sotech is open to specifiers and contractors, where all of our Optima Rainscreen Systems are on display alongside the widest selection of materials and finishes, including pre and post coat aluminium, ACM, Copper, Zinc, Stainless Steel and Anodised.

Sotech has invested heavily in sophisticated design and manufacturing technology. All Sotech Optima Rainscreen Systems have been independently tested to meet CWCT rigorous specification for rainscreen.
